Merauke, Papua

Izakod bekai izakod kai means one heart one destination: to make local people more developed, more prosperous. This slogan was captured on the aircraft -belongs to local government but managed by Merpati Airlines.

This smaller size kangaroo is native of Papua, can be observed at the Wasur National Park.

Cows are used by local people to pull a wooden cart for transporting agricultural commodities.

Recently, modern agriculture was introduced to this region since there are huge land available for agricultural production but shortage of labor in this area. Population density in this region is still very low. Soaring food price at world market has stimulate investors to enter agribusiness.

At some part of the region, irrigation canals have been established. However, some improvement are needed to make the system works.

Newly opened land for agriculture, crops will be grown include sugarcane, rice, and corn.

Paddy fields that have been established for several decades. Managed by transmigrants from Java. This picture was captured at Tanah Miring District.

Traditional market at Merauke, mostly selling food stuffs and other daily items.

Office and exhibition building -made of wood- of the Wasur National Park. The building was designed based on common shape and color of 'musamus', except it is proportionally shorter than actual musamus as shown below.

At Wasur National Park, piles of soil built by termites -locally known as 'musamus'- are commonly found. It was reported that this soil pile might reach up to more than 5 meter high. The height of the one shown in this picture is estimated approximately 3 meters.

Merauke is mostly consisted of flat tropical low lands, some are swampy and the rest is flat dryland. Savanna can be found in many places in this region. This flat grassland are used by local people as grazing land for cow and buffalo.

Sunset at Lampusatu Beach of Merauke, Papua. This is one of interesting place to visit in Merauke, especially for sunset lovers, however, coastal line is not covered with nice and clean sand. Part of the sand is mixed with muddy soil. So, best thing to do in this beach is watching the sunset. There is fishermen village nearby, if you interested in observing activities of local people.

West Coast of Lombok

There are three small islands off west coast of Lombok, namely Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Terawangan. All with beautiful fine white sand beaches. This is one of the pretty spot at Gili Terawangan. Great thing about these islands is the local rule that all engine-powered land vehicles are not allowed to operate on the islands .........

On the way to the islands, a lovely display of coastal line of West Lombok may amaze us with its steep rocky wall, coconut trees, and colorful sails of local fishermen's boats, returning home after spending all night at sea ...........

Senggigi Beach is the most recommended spot in West Lombok. There are some nice hotels in this area, also some economy hotels for backpackers. For sunset lovers, this is the best location. This image was captured about 15 minutes prior to sunset, instead of capturing the sunset sky -most people do- I aimed my shot to this beach at time it was showered by goldish tone of the sunlight ...........

From under shade of dried-grass-roof hut at Gili Meno, amazing view of Gili Terawangan surrounded by clear blue water is a great nature treat. I don't think anybody want to leave this spot .......... I spent as long as the time I had in this spot. Just enjoying the view ....

After being beaten for hundreds years or may be longer by the waves, these cliffs are still standing. Very persistent ........

A natural small lake, surrounded by mangrove forest is another natural attraction at Gili Meno. This image was taken during dry season .........
